Laminated glass and tempered glass are the two common glazing products used in the prevention of forced entry. Both are considered safety glazing materials and can be obtained in a variety of thicknesses and colors or tints. Laminated glass and tempered glass are both specially treated glass products. They have some significant differences in structure, performance and use:

Structure:

Laminated glass:

Laminated glass is a composite structure formed by a transparent plastic film (usually polyvinyl alcohol PVB film) sandwiched between two layers or multiple layers of glass. These glass and plastic films are bonded together using a special heat-and-press process.

Tempered glass:

Tempered glass is a heat-treated single-layer glass. By heating ordinary glass to a softening temperature and then rapidly cooling it, the surface and interior of the glass are compressed, thereby enhancing its strength and impact resistance.

Safety:

Laminated glass:

Laminated glass can prevent fragments from scattering due to the plastic film inside it. Even if it is broken by impact, the glass pieces will adhere to the plastic film, reducing the risk of shattering.

Tempered glass:

The strength of tempered glass is much higher than that of ordinary glass. Even if a small piece of glass breaks, it is relatively safe, but there may be a risk of flying fragments.

Performance:

Laminated glass:

Laminated glass has sound insulation and sound insulation properties and can effectively prevent sound transmission and heat waves. It is suitable for building exterior walls, windows, partitions and other places.

Tempered glass:

Tempered glass becomes very hard after heat treatment and usually requires cutting and drilling before processing, otherwise it will cause the glass to break.

Generally speaking, laminated glass and tempered glass differ in safety, performance and usage, and the choice should be determined based on specific application scenarios and needs.
